The event takes place on August 8 every year and was created in 2002 by the International Fund for Animal Welfare.
The Examiner joined in the feline festivities by visiting the RSPCA’s Launceston animal care centre to discuss the annual Cupcake Day on Monday, August, 21.
The Tasmanian branch of the organisation has set a fundraising goal of $40,000 and is encouraging individuals, community groups and businesses to register.
All money raised helps to support the work of the local inspectorate team and assist animals in need across the state’s three care centres.
In Launceston there are 30 cats available for adoption but an extra 41 are being cared for.
Those 41 are either still learning about socialisation, are too young, are having their health monitored or gaining some weight before they find furr-ever homes.
