The table-toppers clash delivered a classic battle with Bracknell leading by nine points at quarter time before the Dogs kicked clear with six goals to one in the second term. The Redlegs did not give up but were unable to get back in front, losing 12.7 (79) to 10.10 (70).
Jake Laskey booted four majors for South with Luke Mccarty and Adam Viney chipping in with two apiece, while Matthew Viney and Jordan Tepper looked the goods. Richard Howe (three goals) was dangerous all day as Craig Burling and Jacob Huett toiled hard for Bracknell, who play one more match than South in the run home.
BRIDGENORTH caused a boilover at Parrot Park in taking down reigning premiers Rocherlea 8.13 (61) to just 3.2 (20).
The sixth-placed Parrots led from start to finish as they extended their advantage at every change and kept the Suburban Tigers to five scoring shots.
Bridgenorth veteran Joel Clements, Brady Demeijer and Rohan Sergeant (two goals) were outstanding, while Andrew Cox-Goodyer was named the best in defeat.
Josh Holton (two) and Zane Brown (one) were Rocherlea’s goal-kickers.
The Tigers have lost five of their past seven matches.
HILLWOOD returned to the winner’s list for the first time in a month with a 24-point triumph over George Town at Shark Park to take its season record to eight wins and and six losses.
Josh Moore, Jordan Grieves and Dan Withers drove the charge as Andrew Whitmore slotted three important goals.
Both teams had at least one scoreless quarter but it was the ninth-ranked Saints that found the going tougher despite three majors from playing-coach Allan O’Sign.
Lawrence O'Toole and Callum Aalbreght were adjudged George Town’s most productive.
SCOTTSDALE were the fourth home team to clinch four points in round 16 with a 46-point victory over Deloraine.
The Kangaroos were three-goals up at the first break but failed to kick a goal in the second and final term in going down 13.10 (88) to 6.6 (42).
Joe Krushka (three goals) and Matthew Taylor (two) made use of good play from teammates Josh Whelan and Zac Bean up the ground, while Adam Crawford was responsible for half of Deloraine’s goals.
Ben McLennan and James Baldock were solid contributors for the Roos, who haven’t tasted glory since round 11 in June.
DIVISION 2
Evandale have muscled their way to the top of the NTFA division 2 ladder with a hard-fought 25-point win at St Pats.
The Country Eagles overcame muddy conditions and an in-form Saints outfit to run out 6.9 (45) to 2.8 (20) winners, with Sam Bannister, Jason Bennett and coach Anthony Axton all instrumental in the victory.
A three-goal third term gave Evandale a 37-point lead at the last change, with Damien Wrankmore slotting two majors and Thomas Chugg, Charlie Goodyer, Jackson Davey and James Storay one apiece.
Harry Chapman and Jacob Knight were best on ground for St Pats.
The Eagles sit 20 percentage points above Old Scotch, while St Pats appear certain to finish in fifth spot.
PERTH simultaneously booked its ticket to finals and ended Old Launcestonians' campaign with a stirring come-from-behind win.
Trailing by 21 points at the final break, the Magpies more than doubled their three-quarter time score by booting 9.6 to the Blues’ 0.1 in the final term to claim a 40-point victory, 16.22 (118) to 12.6 (78).
Blues defender Gene Savage helped keep his brother and opposition star forward Brennan quiet after an 10-goal effort last week, but the Magpies still found plenty of avenues to goal, with Steven Hill leading a group of six multiple goal-kickers.
OLD SCOTCH’s fall from grace continued at Rocherlea with a thumping 65-point loss at the hands of East Coast.
The Swans kicked six goals to none in the first term and never looked back, sentencing the Thistles to their second loss of the season.
Dakota Bannister, Jake Sushames and competition leading goal-kicker Nicholas Child all kicked four majors to keep the Swans level on points with third-placed Lilydale.
TAMAR CATS got the better of Uni-Mowbray in a topsy-turvy thriller at Beauty Point.
Led by John Braid and Adam Humzy, the Suburban Eagles nearly made the Cats pay for inaccurate kicking but fell five points short in a match which ended 10.20 (80) to 11.9 (75).
Tamar’s Jacob Parker was best on ground in the win, which saw the Cats jump to seventh, two games behind finals-bound Perth.
BRIDPORT secured its fifth win of the season with a 13-point win at Prospect.
The Hawks led by as many as three goals in the third term but couldn’t hang on as the Seagulls rallied to kick seven second-half goals.
Hawks duo Keiran Carlton and Will Stoltenberg and Seagulls pairing Jake Smythe and Ben Haywood both combined for seven majors.
A 73-point win over Meander Valley helped LILYDALE maintain its stranglehold on third position with one round remaining.
The Demons trailed at the first change but overpowered the home team thereafter with Trent Griggs, Corey Lockett and Drew Clark all influential.
Joshua Griggs kicked four second-half goals for the Demons.
