It was a rare sight for many Launcestonians.
Most of the state received snowfall due to a cold front moving up from Antarctica.
“Snowfalls to near sea level in Tasmania are rare, especially in the north, with the best known recent event occurring in July 1986,” the Bureau of Meteorology reported.
Ice, black ice and snow forced the closure of a number of roads across the state.
Police issued a number of emergency road closures and community alerts for Prospect, Kings Meadows, Perth, Deloraine, Batman Bridge, Frankford Road, Midland Highway, Channel Highway, Tasman Highway, Central West Coast, West Coast Region and Southern Region.
