The life members will be inducted into the exclusive Northern Bombers club along with the late Gavin Luttrell during a luncheon at UTAS Stadium on Saturday.
Young, 58, will join his father Tony “Chang” Young as a legend, giving him “one less thing to boast about”.
Young’s honour roll at York Park is quite extensive and includes a best and fairest (1982), four senior premierships (1975, 1978, 1981 and 1983) and five seasons as captain (1983-87) from his 193 senior games.
The hard-nosed rover played his maiden seniors match as a 16-year-old in 1975 – the season he was drafted to Essendon – and was North’s inaugural Statewide League captain in 1986.
“My father’s a legend, my grandparents, my parents and brothers are life members and for me this is a great honour,” Young said.
“Chang coached a lot while I was captain and playing including ‘83 when we won the flag… it was extremely satisfying.”
Sanders, 68, played 153 senior games in red and black after debuting in 1967 under the tutelage Bob Withers and went on to coach more than 220 games from 1982 to 1992 – heading three under-19 premierships in 1982, 1983 and 1984.
The father-of-two and grandfather-of-four was also instrumental in establishing the club’s past players group known as the Northonians.
“It’s a great honour and something you don’t seek, but I suppose it means we’ve been here contributing for a long time,” the three-time NTFA representative player and coach said.
“Culturally the club has not changed a lot… the identity has remained and we are still regarded as a Northern suburbs club, which it started out as and has probably been the hidden secret to our success over many years.”
Luttrell was a tough wingman and is remembered as a true sportsman who played and captain-coached 100 games for the Bombers between 1945-50 after time with Lefroy and Longford.
The Tasmanian football hall of fame inductee is credited with leading the then Robins through their most successful era with five flags (1946-50) and three state premierships (1947, 1949 and 1950).
Luttrell, who passed away in 2002 aged 91, is a North Launceston life member and coach of the club’s greatest team 1945-1999.
