More than 600,000 $1 shares have been sold, allowing the committee to move onto its recruiting stage.
The extended shareholder period has been extended until August 22.
Chairman Andrew MacGregor said the community had rallied around the project. People can apply for shares by visiting the St Helens Bendigo Bank.
