Two years later and the couple have just tied the knot surrounded by their family, friends and children in the wedding that Demi never imagined she would have.
Having discussed the possibility of getting married, Demi and James decided to elope to Bali and enjoy a sun kissed wedding.
“We had already booked a holiday to Bali and decided to get married while we were there.” Demi said.
“However after speaking with my parents my dad really wanted to walk me down the aisle and being the only daughter, I knew it would mean more to have a wedding at home.”
With the wedding plans changed, Demi and James set the date February 25, 2017 giving them just three months to pull the elegant and traditional family wedding together.
Planning a wedding in three months may seem like a nightmare for most brides to be, but not for Demi, who took it all in her stride and enjoyed every moment.
“It wasn’t stressful at all, the day we set the date I started to make calls to put it all in place,” Demi said.
“We wanted to stay away from the typical country, rustic theme, we live in the country and wanted to do something different,”
“My first phone call was to the photographer because I knew at the end of the day photos are forever, no matter who officiates or the venue, it’s the photos that will last.”
In the following days Demi managed to book the venue, celebrant and in a matter of weeks had purchased the dress.
“I was originally going to wear my mum’s wedding dress, which was 35 years old but it was too small for me,” Demi said.
“I knew I wanted a lace back and a dress that was simple but still elegant, the last dress I tried on was perfect and everything I wanted.”
Both Demi and James had settled on the elegant and traditional theme together, which tied in nicely to their venue settings.
“We wanted to stay away from the typical country, rustic theme, we live in the country and wanted to do something different,” Demi said.
“James wanted the wedding ceremony to be on the family property in his mother’s garden, it was really special as she had passed away so it was our way of remembering her.”
The reception was held at the Smithton Rec, which was completely transformed for the day with beautiful timber rounds and mason jars full of Gypsophila as center pieces.
“I am not a flower lover so the arrangements and bouquets were simple with neutral colours, which tied in with our champagne and ivory colour scheme,” Demi said.
“This colour scheme then flowed into other elements, with champagne sashes on the chairs, napkins and even the take home boxes were champagne coloured.”
“The day was perfect, I have said so many times that I would go back and do it all over again,” Demi said.
Demi and James are still going on their holiday to Bali, but instead of a wedding it will now serve as their honeymoon.
