Free rest areas

AS AN employee of BIG4 Launceston Holiday Park I need to respond to the letter from Ken Padman (The Examiner, July 21). The City of Launceston council is supporting the local economy by not providing free rest areas for overnight motorhome stays. Yes, RVs do spend money in the local area - food, fuel, entertainment, eateries etc but so does every tourist who comes to this state. The difference between free camping and caravan parks is employment. If this park ceased to provide camping sites, the amenities cleaners would lose their jobs. Their wages are spent in the local economy - again for food, fuel, eateries etc but for a lot longer duration than an overnight stay.
