Police Northern District Support Inspector Gary Williams said children will walk between cars and into traffic without looking so it was important to be vigilant.
It was time to switch on to school zones after a couple of weeks hiatus for holidays, he said.
“Most Northern Tasmanian drivers are aware and drive to the conditions and school zones,” Mr Williams said.
He urged drivers to keep an eye out for flashing lights as school buses stop to unload and load students, keeping to 40 kilometres an hour or less within 50 metres.
