After working at the council for seven years Mr Harper’s contract was terminated in July, 2016, while he was on personal leave following the death of his mother.
Mayor Carol Cox said the departure occurred because “it was becoming evident that the working relationship between some councillors and the general manager was not as productive as it could be”.
Mr Harper said the past year had been a difficult time for him professionally and personally.
“I am grateful for the support gives to me by the Flinders community, the council staff, and my family and friends,” he said. “I was proud to call Flinders my home for seven years and want to wish the island all the very best for the future.”
