But if you venture out to one of their training sessions over the coming weeks you’ll see them netting massive wins for the greater Launceston community as they help raise money for The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal.

Gee Tees social and fundraising coordinator Caroline Morris said her club prided itself on being great at passing around the hat as well as passing around the ball. 

“We support a charity within the club every year,” Mrs Morris said.

“Last year we supported the Motor Neurone Disease Foundation and the (Salvation Army’s) Can Drive but this year we’ve decided to keep it local with the four local charities in the Winter Relief Appeal.”

Set to celebrate its 50^th birthday in 2020, Gee Tees Netball Club caters for netballers just starting out in Net Set Go all the way up to those competing in seniors. 

Mrs Morris said players at all levels were keen to do what they could to help out those in need over the colder months. 

“The girls are all really keen to help out, which is great. 

“It’s very important for the girls to be aware that there’s people around them that need help and if everyone can donate a little bit... it’s great that we can do that as a club. 

“We’ll be taking the donation tins to netball training over the next couple of weeks and we’re just keen to encourage everyone to bring a coin or two to training.

“Hopefully together we can go and make a big donation to the Winter Relief Appeal.”

The Examiner’s Winter Relief Appeal partners with City Mission, the Launceston Benevolent Society, the Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul to raise funds for those in need over the winter period.

The generosity of Launceston organisations, individuals and businesses has already seen more than $40,000 raised for the 59^th annual campaign, which aims to raise $50,000 by August 31.
