Fitzies City Cafe has announced it will close its doors after 46 years of trading.
The cafe has been an iconic part of Launceston’s central business district, located in the upper level of what is now Harris Scarfe, in the Brisbane Street Mall.
Co-owner Rhonda Talbot said she was sad to be saying farewell to the cafe.
“It’s just one of those situations,” Mrs Talbot said, who has personally worked there for 42 years.
“It’s the last of its kind of restaurant in Australia.
“I’ve seen kids come in from little babies, grow through to young adults.
“We service a lot of elderly people, who are maybe lonely, and they take their casserole home in a takeaway container for tea… There’s a lot of history.”
Mrs Talbot and co-owner Jennifer Chilcott said they preferred to focus on the positives of the cafe, such as all the happy memories that it had created, and patrons it had served.
Fitzies will close in about three weeks.
