Yvonne and Johanna were officially welcomed on Monday, July 18.
Cr Tucker read a letter from immigration minister Peter Dutton.
“The history and culture of Australia has been forged over hundreds of years, first it was Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islanders and today its people from all corners of the world,” he said.
“People from all backgrounds and religions strengthen our country and only together, united is when our future is as strong as our past.”
In the letter Mr Dutton thanked the pair for taking the important step, before they pledged their own loyalty to Australia.
