The lighthouse, which was installed in June, was paid for by Furneaux Freight, a spokeswoman said.
“The existing navigation aid at the mouth of the Brid River was updated to a more user-friendly and aesthetically pleasing lighthouse,” she said.
The spokeswoman said the construction of the lighthouse was part of the town’s nautical theme.
“It provides a seat at the river mouth as well as an updated platform allowing for easy servicing and enhanced longevity,” she said.
“The light house provides important navigational direction when transiting the Brid River Bar Way.”
The spokesperson said the ownership of the lighthouse was handed to Marine and Safety Tasmania upon completion.
Dorset Council general manager Tim Watson said the lighthouse did not have to pass council development approval processes as it was classed as a navigational aid.
