Despite the downpour, Friday morning was a little toasty compared to earlier in the week – It was 8.6 degrees at 7am in Launceston – a little nicer than the -.05 at the same time on Thursday.
Nearly 3mm of rain fell from 5.30am to 6.30am on Friday.
The Bureau of Meteorology said there was a high chance of a thunderstorm on Friday morning as a trough and associated rain band cross the state.
A wet afternoon was likely, with a cold front expected later in the evening.
A marine wind warning has been issued for the Far North West Coast, Central North Coast, Banks Strait and Franklin Sound, East of Flinders Island, Upper East Coast, Lower East Coast, South East Coast and South West Coast on Friday.
On Thursday Tasmania Police issued drivers with a road weather alert, with many roads subjected to slippery conditions due to frost, ice and snow.
Snow is predicted for much of the state on Friday and Saturday, mainly above 800 metres, with heavy falls possible for the North-East Coast and the West Coast.
