Launching a new campaign this week, police will be cracking down on faulty headlights.
Message boards will be placed across the region, reminding drivers to check their lights are working.
Senior Constable Annabel Shegog from Community Policing said it was “surprising how many cars there are out there with only one headlight operating”.
“It's the responsibly of the driver and the registered owner to ensure the car is roadworthy at all times,” Senior Constable Shegog said.
"We encourage all vehicle owners to take one minute to check if your lights are working and make sure you check low beam and high beam as a priority."
Autobarn Launceston owner Rod Patterson is supporting the campaign.
“Replacing globes normally is not difficult and we will assist anyway we can to keep drivers safe on our roads,” he said.
Drivers with faulty headlights may face a fine of $140 and can be issued with a defect notice.
