The inquiry will be held over two days with individuals and organisations able to address issues of concern in Launceston on July 10.
The proposal would see the municipality of West Tamar in its entirety located in the Division of Bass while the municipality of Latrobe in its entirety would be located in Braddon.
Dorset Mayor Greg Howard strongly opposed the change to Bass’ boundary, in which the Dorset and Flinders municipalities would become part of Lyons.
“Dorset fail to see how excluding small highly populated areas on the West Tamar, Latrobe and Port Sorell area and including an extra 3196 square kilometres of Dorset and 2040 square kilometres of Flinders Island will in any way assist elected members to service their electorate,” he said.
“The sheer decentralisation of the population in our two municipalities will make community engagement almost impossible when added to the huge number of communities in the rest of Lyons.”
Mr John Beattie also put forward an objection arguing that the current proposal would have the effect of isolating the community from the member elected in Lyons.
The proposed size of the new Lyons ... makes it virtually impossible for a federal member to service the electorate.

“The proposed size of the new Lyons electorate of 40,914 square kilometres or fifty four percent of Tasmania makes it virtually impossible for a federal member to service the electorate,” he said.
When it released the proposal the Electoral Commission said the changes reflected the differing rates of population and enrolment growth across Tasmania, as well as taking into account the projected enrolment in the five electoral divisions through to May 2021.
Anyone who would like to appear before the inquiry must make an appointment with the Tasmanian Redistribution Secretariat by 2pm on Friday, July 7.
