The stunning beach wedding was held on the quiet shores of secluded Cosy Corner beach, with friends and family gathering in celebration of their love and commitment to each other under a canopy of sunshine.
The Launceston born and raised couple had been dating for seven years before Todd asked Emma to be his wife, and although she knew a proposal was on the cards, Todd made sure the occasion was a complete surprise.
“We had taken our dog, Dallas (a Rhodesian Ridgeback) for a walk at a beach at Bridport, which is something we do quite often.
We stopped for little while on the rocks and enjoyed the scenery and when I turned to look at Todd he pulled out the ring.
“It was a complete surprise and Todd had planned it so well, I have an identical twin sister who lives in Queensland but she was home at the time so I could celebrate with her.”
Despite their lengthy past, Emma and Todd were in no rush to organise the wedding, preferring to take their time and enjoy the engagement.
“The planning wasn’t stressful at all, I had been looking forward to getting engaged for so long and I just wanted to enjoy it,” Emma said.
“We had been together for seven years, another two years wasn’t going to change anything and it gave us the time to save and plan at a leisurely pace.”
With two years to plan, everything fell into place perfectly, with the couple picking the East Coast to celebrate their wedding, as it had always held a big place in their hearts.
“When we first started dating we would spend a lot of time on the east coast camping with friends,” Emma said.
“We then approached Mohr and Smith in St Helens to see if they would host our reception – it’s rustic and adorned with greenery, which was just what we wanted.”
With the ceremony location and reception venue chosen, all that was left to do was for Emma to find the perfect wedding dress.
“I had this idea in my head of what I wanted for quite some time and I couldn’t find it anywhere, until I met Emily at Studio White, a gorgeous bridal studio in Ulverstone,” Emma said.
“I described to her the dress style as “a simple silhouette” with some lace detail and she immediately pulled a dress off the rack, which was exactly what I was looking for.”
Designed by Karen Willis Holmes, the dress was accessorised with a stunning hand-tied bouquet of red peonies, an assortment of wild flowers and glorious green foliage.
“When my sister and I went to collect the flowers we were jumping up and down crying with excitement because they were so amazing.”
I love flowers and set the date for November so I could include peonies in my bouquet, not only because they are beautiful but because they hold a special place in my heart
The florist also made a beautiful floral arrangement for the driftwood arch that Todd had handmade for the ceremony.
Emma walked down the aisle to an acoustic version of The Beatles’, “Here comes the sun” played by local musician Tom Hanns, then joined Todd under the arch for a very appropriate fisherman’s knot tying ceremony to symbolise their commitment to each other. “It is a knot we will never break`” Emma said.
