The WD Booth Charitable Trust has been supporting the Winter Relief appeal since the trust was established after Mrs Booth’s death in 2000.
This year, the Trust has donated $12,000 to the appeal, which runs until the end of August.
Trustee Jill Dearing said the WD Booth Charitable Trust enjoyed supporting the appeal because they knew exactly where their donations were going.
“It goes directly to the local communities through the four charities,” Mrs Dearing said.
The WD Booth Charitable Trust is a discretionary trust, which means the trustees get to decide which causes to support.
Mrs Dearing said it was important they chose the right ones that would keep Mrs Booth’s legacy alive.
She said Mrs Booth donated to Winter Relief personally while she was alive and they believed the appeal was worth supporting.
Over the years, the WD Booth Charitable Trust has donated about $200,000 just to Winter Relief.
The Trust has provided nearly $6 million to Tasmanian charitable organisations.
Mrs Dearing said she always wondered what Mrs Booth would have thought about their donations.
“It does pop into your head from time to time – I wonder what she would have thought about the causes we choose to support,” she said.
“But I think she’d be pretty happy with the legacy she’s left behind.”
