War on Plastic
IT’S HEARTENING to see more people committed to reducing their plastic use; and in those many situations where goods come in plastic that seems to be outside our control, to make every effort to recycle the material. It is stupid that we buy so many plastic bottles of water when our tap water is perfectly fit to drink. As consumers we have the power of choice and I hope more and more of us are choosing to avoid plastics if possible. Let us do all we can to slow the despoliation of our planet for our descendants’ sake.

Toll and traffic
I WISH to thank Mr Khan (The Examiner, June 24) for his letter regarding traffic flow not affecting local residents other than those in Boland Street. I am uncertain as to where he has gained his information, but I can assure all Launceston citizens that his letter comprises misleading information. I have a property in Racecourse Crescent. I know that almost all Toll trucks travel to and from the depot in Dowling Street via Racecourse Crescent, the full length of Cimitiere Street and then connecting to the Northern and Southern outlet. We have frequently counted up to 10 trucks in a 10 minute period passing our house.
These trucks do not travel Boland and Henry streets as Mr Khan alleges other than those entering Boags Brewery. Yes Toll plans to expand and use the rail system more efficiently easing traffic congestion on the highway and alleviating pollution concerns. This increasing amount of freight still needs the trucks to deliver to and distribute containers from the rail depot. Launceston ratepayers do have a valid case to stop this expansion of Toll. A development such as this should be on an sidling out at Western Junction.

Census results
MUCH comment has been made over the fall in the number of people declaring some religious affiliation. It seems to me that if there were a category marked sport, the numbers for those believing in assorted sports teams would outrank every other traditional "belief" listed.
