Reynolds, 53, replaces Ian Morrison, who resigned last month for personal reasons.
“I am looking forward to planning our direction for community football in the North for the next five years and beyond,” the married father-of-two said on Wednesday.
“There are obviously a lot of changes that are going ahead with the inclusion of women’s football into our competition, and also looking at designing a better transition from junior football into the senior competition.”
Reynolds has served Tasmania Police for 37 years and is in charge of Prosecution Services for the North-West, an area in which he grew up and played football.
Before coaching the Tigers, Reynolds guided St Patrick’s College’s senior team for three years and has held many executive roles.
He said key challenges facing the NTFA and its member clubs were falling player numbers, degrading facilities and the integration of women’s football.
“There are always challenges… but a majority of the clubs have a very responsible attitude,” Reynolds said.
“I don’t normally take things on halfheartedly, I think there are some planning challenges for us, and we need to ensure that we’re in sync with those bodies that are above us.We also need to play a bigger role in attracting and obtaining umpires to the competition, as well as finding out what the supporters want.”
Louise Millwood was also voted in to fill the vacant board position.
