READING about the sacrifices of the bull at Dark Mofo in Hobart, I wondered what kind of people thought being covered in blood and guts was art.

If they think this Austrian artist is so wonderful then maybe they should visit an abattoir where all the guys who work there do the same type of “art”.

For the dollar
THE Tasmanian government obviously will do anything to keep the tourist dollars coming in. Dark Mofo’s animal sacrifice as “art”. Nothing is too much for the government. Then again, the Tasmanian government reaches back to a very dark, bloody history, doesn’t it.

Disgusted
IN RECENT days a bull was slaughtered all in the name of art.
The disgusting events that took place upon the slaughter of this animal, drinking its blood, throwing internal organs into the crowd, is that of disgusting and barbaric behaviour and this was allowed to happen.
Our parliamentarians turned a blind eye as they always do when the going gets tough and everything that the RSPCA represents seems to have no relevance over such inhumane behaviour.
Where were the rights for this bull, how was this allowed to happen when so many people signed petitions, protesters rallied to stop this barbaric event and yet the powers to be were nowhere to be seen?
I have no other words than that of sheer disgust, total disappointment, complete lack of faith in our leaders and sadness.
As for the artist, my words are unable to be printed.

Biblical slaughter
IN RESPONSE to Chloe Jenkins (Letters, June 20), don't be so fast to assume that the Bible doesn't condone "needlessly killing an animal just for the fun of wallowing in the blood and guts".
It quite specifically does in numerous places, such as Exodus 29:19:
“Take the other ram, and Aaron and his sons shall lay their hands on its head. Slaughter it, take some of its blood and put it on the lobes of the right ears of Aaron and his sons, on the thumbs of their right hands, and on the big toes of their right feet. Then splash blood against the sides of the altar. And take some blood from the altar and some of the anointing oil and sprinkle it on Aaron and his garments and on his sons and their garments. Then he and his sons and their garments will be consecrated."

Animal cruelty
AFTER the Dark Mofo brutal, savage, and debased exhibition in the name of art, the time has come to ban Dark Mofo, there is no place in our state for this depraved type of “entertainment”.
It is obvious from the published photographs, that this act was intended to shock and insult as many people as possible.
It was also intended to mock Christianity by depicting the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.
No thought was given to the effect this disgusting display might have on little children.
It was simply both a sinister and evil display, designed and performed by a group of savages, having the temerity and stupidity, to imagine that anyone could enjoy such barbarism.
