The town’s Steampunk Festival is on from noon on Saturday, with an eccentric schedule that focuses around the fun sub-culture.
Saturday’s schedule includes live music, stalls, children’s activities, model steam trains, a fashion parade, as well as sailing on the Airship Ponrabble Boilertrumpet.
Reading weather
The weather forecast for this weekend does not appear to lend itself to outdoor activities.
So it’s good timing for the Variety Monster Book Fair.
The fair is touting a total of thousands of tomes for sale across all genres.
For those who like their stories in different mediums, there will also be a range DVDs, CDs, and puzzles for sale.
It will be held at Country Club Tasmania, from 10am to 6pm on Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
Proceeds go to the charity Variety, which is hoping to top its fundraising total of $41,000 from last year’s book fair.
New threads
Tasmanian fashion lovers who are keen to reduce their waste footsteps can revel in Saturday’s My Closet Market in Launceston.
The regular event offers shoppers the chance to update their wardrobes, and reduce the cycle of clothing wastage.
All the market’s stalls are fully booked, with organisers promising a healthy swag of men’s and women’s new and pre-loved clothing, shoes, jewellery and accessories for sale.
The market is on from noon until 3pm at St Ailbes Hall.
Fine food & wine
Sharmans Wines is offering the perfect chance to do nothing on Sunday. The Relbia vineyard has restarted its Sundays at Sharmans series, with a winter makeover.
The winery encourages people to break away from the hibernation blues with food and wine.
From 11am, the day features live music, hot and tasty locally made food, house cheese platters, and more. This weekend’s delicious guest will be One on the Slide, serving up pizza, nachos, soup, and sliders.
Children are welcome.
Tornado power
The Launceston Tornadoes are hoping to bounce back from a loss against Canberra last weekend when they play at home on Saturday night.
The Torns will take on Albury-Wodonga in the SEABL match at Elphin Sports Stadium.
The game tips off from 6.30pm, and the Torns need their home-town supporters to help them slam it home.
The team will also be donating money to the Give Me Five For Kids charity for each goal scored in the match.
Entry is $15 for adults, $8 for concession card holders, $5 for children, and $30 for a family – two adults and two children.
