We take our own cups and what’s more, we take the plastic forks, spoons, knives in as well for our use.
What’s the point of throwing out extra plastic waste when it can be washed and used again? In the end, the shops will save on plastic utensils. Small starts, but so important.
Elsa de Ruyter, St Helens.
Power plan
THE headline in The Examiner read “Power plan to slash bills and blackout”. It seems I could save a whole $90 a year, hardly a slash, more like a paper cut.
Ron Baines, Kings Meadows.
Aboriginal artifacts
THE University of Cambridge has refused a request by an Australian man for the repatriation of four spears and a shield taken from aborigines by Captain Cook when he landed at Botany Bay in 1788.
There is no doubt the artifacts are recognised as important symbols of the first contact between the British and Indigenous Australians, yet the university (in my opinion) has no right to keep them.
If I'm not mistaken there is a law against those who receive stolen property and refuse to return them, or are museums exempt?
If that's the case, just wait till the Aussies win back the “ashes” later this year and see how the poms feel when we refuse to give them back.
Robert Lee, Summerhill.
Predator
AFTER reading the article regarding the exploitation of children by predators of children for sex on line (The Examiner, June 16), the punishment certainly doesn't fit the crime.
It's a joke giving the perpetrator 10 years jail for rape and murder. It should be for the age of the felon, for example, if one is 25 years old that is what the sentence should be.
Look at the amount of parolees committing crimes after being released.
