The special auction is held about twice a year.
Most of the items in the petrol memorabilia sale have come from estates, or people who have decided to give up their collections.
Bottles, bowsers, oil tins, motorcycles and classic cars line the walls of Armitage Auctions’ warehouse.
One of the key items available is a Ford LTD Coupe.
Armitage Auctions director Neil O’Brien said there had been a strong interest in the pieces of motoring history on show.
“Once upon a time it was stamps and coins, but now toys and petrol garage-phernalia have become highly collectable,” he said.
“These days cars, motorbikes and this sort of gear is highly sought after.”
Mr O’Brien said much of the catalogue was found in sheds and homes, with many people not aware of the items’ collectable value.
Mr O’Brien said two similar auctions for motoring items were held last year.
He said they were some of their most successful.
“We’ve built up quite a good clientele, particularly with buyers for this sort of thing,” he said.
“There’s a good lot of buyers out there waiting for this type of thing to come up.”
That interest is expected to be replicated in this weekend’s auction, where people are expected to travel from interstate for the event.
“We’re two days out and people are still bringing things in for it,” Mr O’Brien said.
The auction will be held at 9 Goodman Court, Invermay, on Saturday.
