The 2017 ArtStart was launched at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery on Thursday, with the invite open to all 12 schools involved. 

No Place Like Home saw primary-aged students use a variety of mediums to portray their understanding of home. 

QVMAG director Richard Mulvaney said the works were inspiring. 

“In this exhibition there are some really great, comforting, happy stories of home and there is another one that talks about the sad corner in home which is really quite a poignant art work,” he said. 

“It crosses all sort of spectrums, but it makes you realise that creativity starts at the early ages.” 

Mulvaney said the exhibition allows children’s works to be displayed in a significant public gallery. 

“We all hope that as a result of the experience they will go on to do more, not just in art, but in the arts in general,” he said.  

“We have an art gallery here with some international works and then we have this type of exhibition from kids who live in the area, I love that type of juxtaposition.” 

Art education officer Kate Collins said the works describe places where children feel safe, supported, protected and loved.

The exhibition will be open until November 10.
