Club 54 will host events on Friday, Saturday and Sunday this week, with a line up that includes Byron Bay punk rockers Skegss.
It will mark the first time the three piece has graced the stage in Launceston, and lead singer Ben Reed said the band can’t wait.
“We’re super keen,” he said.
“It’s usually only during the regional tours we get to go to new places, so it’s nice to head down there and play to different people.”
After bursting onto scene as the joint winners of the 2015 Triple J Unearthed prize, Skegss have gained notoriety both in their home country and the United States, where they went to record their debut EP.
The band’s energetic live shows have garnered them a following that goes well beyond their home town of Byron Bay.
Skegss have been making new fans not only across Australia, but also overseas in the past few months, as part of an extensive touring schedule.
Following the release The Holiday Food EP at the beginning of April, the band jetted off to Europe in May for a string of dates that included the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, Spain and France.
Reed said the overseas shows definitely exceeded the trio’s expectations.
“They were some of smaller shows we have done, but we were constantly surprised because we didn’t think anybody would show up,” he said.
“We had about 100 people come to the show in Belgium, and we got to hang out with a lot of them afterwards, which was awesome.
“Those shows were cool, because they were a bit more intimate.”
After playing Club 54 on Sunday, Skegss will wrap up their tour in Perth, before a six-week break.
Reed said they planned to use the time wisely.
“We think it would be a good idea to go to a place we have never been before, and record some demos,” he said.
“We barely had any time to relax between the Europe and Australian tours, so it will be good to have some down time where we can focus on new music.
“We have already written heaps of songs, so it will be nice to get recording.”
Skegss will play Club 54 on Sunday with Good Boy and Pist Idiots.
Club 54’s Three Day Weekend starts on Friday night with 90s Party from 9pm, before a Pirate Party from 9pm on Saturday.
Tickets for Skegss’ Sunday show are available through Oztix.
Doors open at 8pm.
