Emily Heazlewood, Claire Cameron, Eleanor Arumugam, Hoai Nguyen and Yara Alkhalili make up the Golden Diversity team who were tasked with designing a miniature F1 car to race along a 25 metre track.
It was a car than took them all the way to the National Championships in March, where they picked up Best Verbal Presentation, Best Team Portfolio, Best Manufactured Car and Best Engineered Car.
They will now represent Australia in the Professional Class at the F1 in Schools World Final in Kuala Lumpa, and on Tuesday, received a $2500 donation towards their trip from the state government.
Marketing and Project Director for the Golden Diversity, Yara Alkhalili, said the journey was a learning experience in more ways than one for each of the team.
“Initially, we had no idea what the competition was about,” she said.
“Going into our second year, we had learned a lot, so we made it our goal to inspire and mentor others within our generation to get involved in STEM.”
State Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff described the all female team as “ground breakers.”
