But the the trip home on Thursday night was a fleeting visit as the Invermay bowler headed almost immediately back within 48 hours for the Australian Open in a whirlwind fortnight that included a New Zealand Test series.
Van Asch headlined Australia Green’s women’s triples gold medal win with Carla Krizanic and Natasha Scott in a convincing 23-11 over the Kiwis.
Australia Green’s fours side that included Kristina Krstic and Chloe Stewart was unlucky not to deliver a second gold for Van Asch and Krizanic in a nailbiting 12-11 loss to Australia Gold.
But Van Asch had still remained enthused by the encouraging performances.
“Another great week with this awesome crew,” Van Asch said on social media.
“Another triples gold medal with Carla & Tash and a silver in the fours with Carla, Kristina & Chloe. Lots of hard work still to go though.”
That hard work Van Asch was referring to was the Australian Open that starts on Saturday at Broadbeach.
The proclaimed world’s biggest open bowls festival for more than 2000 bowlers over two weeks of competition also includes Trevallyn bowler Lachie Sims.
The 17-year-old has come off strong form in a winning Australian campaign against Test rivals New Zealand.
Sims, one of two under-18 development players in the national team, won eight of his nine games that sealed the series 3-0.
