It was the end of March when Van Asch last rolled a bowl over competitively back in Tasmania during the Bowls North pennant finals.
“A month ago I had played a series against England and it’s the only time I have been on grass since,” Van Asch confirmed on Sunday.
“I have been training on our artificial surfaces at home and it is quite different.
“It is good to keep my hand in over the winter, but it is certainly not the same.”
Van Asch’s performances hasn’t suffered without the recent run on the greens during the final Test up against defending Trans Tasman series holders New Zealand.
The form bowler went on to claim the blue-ribbon pairs 20-17 with Lynsey Clarke after they earlier had combined with Kelsey Cottrell to win the triples 33-7 over the Kiwis to clean sweep the series three-nil.
Van Asch was satisfied she meet the challenge to retain her high standards in what was a difficult lead-up.
“That was always something I knew I’d have to battle with staying in Tassie, having our offseason,” she said.
“Life is made a little bit easier with more artificial surfaces and indoors (greens) have also become more of a fashion down here.
“That’s certainly helped me play all year around.
“But it’s certainly better when I get the opportunity to come up to the Gold Coast.”
Van Asch will also target next week’s Australian Open centred on the Broadbeach Bowls Club to improve her chances of getting the nod for the Commonwealth Games.
“I have really enjoyed being back on the quicker greens because our grass is out of action at this time of year. So it’s been really good to be back on that,” she said.
The 28-year-old had moved on Sunday to play for Australian Green at the Gold Coast Multi-Nations tournament where her fours proved too strong for Canada on the opening day.
