Hours prior to Northern Rangers securing the prized Challenge Cup in the NPL encounter on Saturday, City earned a 2-1 home victory over their crosstown rivals at Buckby Land Rover Park.

City got out to a goal lead at half-time courtesy of Mackenzie Hancox’s sixth score for the season.

Will Tedeschi later added a second that handed City its sixth win in 11 games, the side one of six to amazingly yet to play in a draw this year.

Geofery Wani scored the lone goal for Rangers, which is cemented six points behind their adversary in fifth.

City currently sit in third, but still trail championship pacesetters Devonport City by a sizeable 12 points.

​Devonport earned their 10th win from 11 games in a resounding 3-1 result over hosts Launceston United.

The Strikers were never really headed at Birch Avenue and went three goals up by the interval.

United’s William Rodman goaled his fourth for this year, but his side struggled to overcome the margin.

United now trade ladder positions with City in dropping down to fourth.  

Riverside Olympic’s dismal season got worse on the back of a heavy 5-1 loss to the vastly-improving Burnie.

The seventh loss in 10 games leaves Riverside languishing in last behind Ulverstone, who succumbed to Somerset during a 6-1 defeat.
