The Invermay lawn bowler has been selected in the Australian Jackaroos’ squad to challenge the New Zealand Blackjacks at Broadbeach Bowls Club from Wednesday to Friday.
Twelve Jackaroos players will be rotated through the 10 playing positions in the open men’s and women’s teams, for all to stake their claims for Gold Coast selection.
“Between now and December will have a great bearing on selection for Comm Games,” Van Asch said.
“It is a stepping stone to get picked for these sort of events.
“Our primary goal will be obviously to try and win it [Trans Tasman Series] because last year over in New Zealand it was the New Zealand women that defeated us… and then individually I will be trying to put in a solid performance in front of selectors to impress and help my chances of Comm Games selection.”
Following the series, both Australia and New Zealand will participate in the Gold Coast Multi-Nations event from Saturday to June 7 against Scotland, Malaysia, Hong Kong-China, Wales and Canada.
The 2012 world pairs title winner said she has been in good form since last year’s global championships in Christchurch where she skippered the Australian women’s triples team to gold and was involved in the winning fours side.
“We have come off a bit of down time in Tassie with our season finishing but I’m hoping I can carry on the form that I’ve had in the past 12 months or so,” Van Asch said.
“If I can, hopefully it will mean positive things – fingers crossed.”
I will be trying to put in a solid performance in front of selectors.
