The Break O’Day Council have given back to the regions community groups. Announced on May 1, the Community Funding Program saw 10 successful community driven initiatives receive various amounts of funding.

The St Helens Sailing Squadron will use their $5000 to fund the set up of a youth sailing cadet program.
Club representative Glen Stewart said the club hoped to attend the longest-running youth championships in the southern hemisphere, using their funds to transport the boats and competitors to the event.
“We intend to take four boats, with a crew of three people and 14 youths in the St Helens area to the Australian Youth Championships,” Mr Stewart said.
Mr Stewart said the club had been very supported by Australian National Open Council and TMP Logistics as well as the council.
The St Marys Pacing Club received more than $5500 to replace the seating at the venue. The club’s secretary said the facility’s tables and chairs were passed their used-by date.
“The tables and chairs have never really been updated. We’re so grateful to the council,” Mr Woods said.
He hopes to have the new tables and chairs in action by the club’s one meet a year, which is on New Year’s Day.
The Fingal Neighbourhood House also received $5000 to connect the railway station to power. Neighbourhood house coordinator Gary Barnes said having the power connected to the building would give the community the ability use the building. The project is already in the planning stages.
Seymour Community Action Group received funds to assist with gorse eradication.
“Receiving the Funds from BODC has enabled us to make a good start on this project which will take consistent follow up over the years,” group president Quentin Smith said.
St Marys District School are using their $400 grant to start a breakfast club, whereas the St Helens Online Access Centre are using their money to run digital workshops. Pyengana Cricket Club will use a grant of more than $2000 to replace the artificial turf. The Union Church of Goulds County will replace an external wall.
$30,000 is budgeted for this project annually.
