A small brown pony – with a very flash bridle – trotting impatiently after his longer-legged Arab and Part-Arab compatriots.
Niah Marjanen, five-years-old, successfully completed the 20-kilometre introductory endurance on her 12-year-old Welsh Section B Pony Shadow.
“I like going for long rides and showing off my bridle,” Niah said of her race.
Her mother Katja accompanied Niah on a 16-year-old Appaloosa, Dusty. They travelled from Cygnet for the ride, just their second endurance competition.
Niah said Shadow was very well-behaved until overtaken in the last few kilometres, at which point he decided it was time to hurry home for a well-earned rest and a feed – after completing the final vet check and getting the tick of approval.
The Marjanens said despite their novice status, they had been warmly welcomed by the endurance community keen to see them succeed.
