“It was the hardest day I have ever played in rugby,” player Emily Haywood said.
The defending champions lost the series grand final 22-0 to rival Glenorchy.
But Launceston did inflict the Stags’ only season loss 15-12 in opening clash.
“They are a very physical team to go up against and by the end we were very tired,” Haywood said. “At that point, we just couldn’t match their physicality and their size.”
Coach Thomas Scarfe added that the long day had taken its toll on his side.
“A few calls didn’t go our way and it just changed the girls’ mentality,” he said.
The Queen Bees earlier had earned preliminary wins over Devonport 25-12 and University 39-0 despite a red-carding leaving Launceston with just six players for all but two minutes of the game.
Launceston will return to the field on July 8 for the winter series on trial ahead of the inaugural National University Sevens Series.
