Sergeant Nigel Sheahen said the driver returned a blood alcohol limit reading of twice the legal limit for the holder of a full licence.
The man, who was driving a white Holden ute was detected on the Bass Highway at Sulphur Creek.
He was arrested, charged and bailed to appear in the Burnie Court of Petty Sessions at a later date.
The ute was clamped for a period of 28 days.
“Police would like to remind motorists that driver behaviour such as this may result in a catastrophic outcome and that ‘speeding shatters live’,” Sergeant Sheahen said.
