Politicians
IT IS easy to agree with Peter Kerslake's observations on the questionable performance of our politicians (The Examiner, February 13).

We must however, also question to naivety of the electorate in general.
We have an equal audacity in nobbling a Prime Minister and his team in following the mendacity of the Australian Labor Party, and their external helpers, in spreading outright and known lies about Medicare, and by this discombobulation voting for over-vocal minority candidates and so called independents.
The last federal election offered us a government led by an experienced and successful merchant banker backed by a team of highly competent people, or a previously failed Labor Party led by a stand-in trades union leader with a small "l” questionably backed by an economically flawed team.
Collectively the choices were too hard for us and many of us opted for leaping out of the frying pan into the fire and the mendacious traps set by the Labor Party and other fantasy weavers such as The Greens and an odd assortment of over optimistic would-bes.
It is a bit rich now to attack the Liberal Coalition for not doing things so clearly promised before the election when we ourselves prevented such outcomes.
Are too many of us "divorced and disingenuous"?
Are we the kettles calling the pots black?

Safe Schools
I APPLAUD the encouraging actions of Education Minister, Jeremy Rockliff, and the Education Minister for NSW, Rob Stokes in scrapping the Safe Schools program, sponsored by the LGBTI community, aided and abetted by some academics from La Trobe University in Melbourne.
It is now time for all States to take the same action, as this program is more ideological than educational, and has nothing to do with bullying. I have seen for myself, the material provided for teachers and students and find it horrifying and so subjective and totally unnecessary.
Our children are our most precious and enduring investment in the future and they deserve an education of the highest order, in subjects of real importance to their future, such as reading, writing, and mathematics.
The plethora of other subjects put into schools, seem to the non teacher, a nightmare, and to have this Safe Schools Program foisted upon them must be very difficult.
Better schools are those that teach respect for one another regardless of any differences, but it has to be supported by parents/guardians at home.
The whole community also must demonstrate respect for each other, and show what a difference it makes to one’s comfort, happiness and safety.
Well done you Ministers, this is what our community wants to see, real leadership, real issues, not whimsical following of trendy issues.

Vote on sewerage and stormwater
I CAN understand the state Labor members’ negativity on the government taking over the fix for this long lasting and ongoing issue, because they are bereft of memory of their 16 years in government.
Now they seem to have all the answers in putting this problematic situation back in the hands of TasWater. I can also see why the council wants to have TasWater at the helm, because of the payments to councils.
Let the government fix the problem, as they have fixed the Tasmanian economy with the expertise and tenacity which has not been seen for quite a few years.
The gall of TasWater, putting out a leaflet with their accounts saying that TasWater has sent samples to the US for the best tasting water in an International competition, made me feel quite sad for those on boil alert .

China’s Aircraft Carrier
CHINA has recently launched its new aircraft carrier (the country's second) entirely built in China itself.
There's no doubt the world’s insatiable appetite for Chinese-made goods has helped pay for it, and being able to build it in their own backyard.
There is a lot of secrecy surrounding what Beijing is up to on all fronts, therefore it is reasonable to say one has mixed feelings on this latest achievement in relation to world peace.
Robert Lee, Summerhill.
Politicians hypocrisy
THE RECENT meeting between our Prime Minister and President Trump illustrates the total hypocrisy of our leaders.
On the one hand we have Trump stating that Australia has the best health care system in the world, having just celebrated a victory towards the dismantling of America’s attempt via Obamacare to provide, at least, some universal health package.
How does our Prime Minister respond?
By congratulating Trump on his win,of course.
Maybe Medicarescare during the previous election had some basis in fact.
A Carter, Mowbray.
Tamar restoration
LET’S look at the problem.
Floods, silt, sewerage and the health of our greatest asset.
No more bandages and stupid, small, money wasting projects.
Look at the overall problem and you cannot fix one without fixing the other.
This will need people with common sense to formulate plan and agree on it and work together to fix the problem.
A lot of people have put forward ideas that have merit if brought into the overall equation.
There is no concrete plan in place to fix the problem at present.
This has been going on for 30 years and what we have is not working.
I am passionate about this problem, as my friends will tell you.
I have a plan to fix the problem and if you are passionate about our river then join me and together we may fix the river.
