The Country Tigers fought hard for their second victory of the season, winning 5.13 (43) to 4.8 (32) in winter-like conditions.
The hosts kept the Saints scoreless in the first term and could have finished them off but were wasteful with 1.7.
Just one point separated the two outfits at half time before another quarter without scoring from George Town gave Longford something to protect in the final stanza, which proved too much.
Tiger Cody Thorp (two) was the game’s only multiple goal-kicker with Brodie Langley and Sam Luttrell named best on.
The Saints’ most productive were Braidy Squires, Callum Aalbreght and seniors debutant Scott Reitsema. Longford is now in sixth spot.
SCOTTSDALE sailed past Rocherlea in the final 30 minutes to clinch a thrilling one-point win.
The Suburban Tigers led by 21 points at three-quarter time after a five goal-to-two third term, however, the Magpies continued to push with great effect.
Geoff Mohr’s men piled on six straight goals to the reigning premier’s 14 points to triumph 13.7 (85) to 13.6 (84).
Joe Robinson (four) and Lee Nichols combined for seven Magpie goals as Bryton Mullins and Nat Barnett dominated.
Zane Brown, Braydon Bassett and Field Reeves (four majors) shone for Rocherlea, whose third loss in four matches has them sitting in outright fifth position.
Ladder-leaders BRACKNELL kept its perfect record intact at Parrot Park in the second heartbreaker of round 8.
Proceedings were all square at the main break against Bridgnorth before they built a 12-point three-quarter time buffer, only for them to have it snatched away – losing 12.9 (81) to 12.8 (80).
Reglegs forward Glenn Dawson finished with three goals as Jake Cox and Will Fisher again dominated, while Bridgenorth were well guided by Aaron Dusautoy and Rohan Sergeant (four goals).
The Redlegs have moved eight points clear of South Launceston and Bridgenorth are equal bottom with Deloraine on one win apiece.
HILLWOOD smashed Deloriane 23.20 (158) to 5.4 (34) at home to rocket into third spot.
The Kangaroos were hopped all over with the Sharks ramming through five first-term goals only to be followed by eight, six and six in the proceeding three.
Sharks Brendan Klok (five goals), Jake King (four), Andrew Whitmore and Dan Withers were the ringleaders, while Oliver Proudfoot and Matthew O’Donoghue were named Deloraine’s best.
DIVISION 2
OLD LAUNCESTONIANS made it two wins on the trot with a comfortable 10-goal result against Meander Valley at Invermay Park on Saturday.
It was a tight duel at the long break with the Blues 11-points up, but it got ugly from there with the host’s converting nine goals to two in the second half to win 18.13 (121) to 9.7 (61).
Scott Churchill (four) and Dale Reid (three) were the most prolific point-scorers for Wayne Kirby’s men with Jake Chamberlain and Jeff Connelly also putting in class performances.
For the Suns, captain Danny Bennett booted three majors with Ethan Miller and Devin Eilander their best.
ST PATS caused somewhat of an upset by brushing Lilydale aside to a 24-point tune.
The Saints are now level with contenders East Coast on points after downing the third-placed Demons 12.5 (77) to 7.11 (53).
Coach Alex Russell kicked four goals on his return with Jono Lawrence chipping in with three for St Pats as Claye Young and Lucas Crawford had positive impacts.
Trent Griggs and Wil Lockhart were Lilydale’s most productive with Kade Dwyer and Shaun Avent bagging two apiece.
BRIDPORT shifted its win-loss ledger to 2-5 with a 15.13 (103) to 10.10 (70) victory over the falling Tamar Cats.
Cody Kerrison presented well to end up with three majors in among 10-individual Seagull goal-kickers.
Sam Tuck was adjudged the best on ground in a winning effort, while Cats coach Brennan Cresswell was his side’s most influential.
Jacob Parker ended up with four goals for Tamar.
EVANDALE moved into outright second position with a 27-point triumph over Uni-Mowbray at University Oval.
In a battle of the Eagles, Evandale was too strong all match as Tyler Brown, Zak Noble and Jason Bennett controlled play.
Jake Tognazzini and Adam Radford stood out for Uni in its sixth loss of the season.
EAST COAST defeated Prospect in comprehensive fashion 19 26 (140) to 5.7 (37) at St Helens.
Nic Child (six) and Jake Sushames (five) combined for 11 Swans goals with former South Launceston and Launceston TSL star Michael Musicka starring in his club debut.
Tim Woolley, Danny Hall and Conniey Riley never gave up on a miserable day for the Hawks.
OLD SCOTCH knocked an ambitious Perth on the head with a 84-point thumping at NTCA Ground.
The unbeaten Thistles produced powerful second and final terms to storm home 19.14 (128) to 5.14 (44), thanks largely to a Michael Murfett five-goal haul and around the ground brilliance from James Lee and Keian Brown.
Steven Hill added three of the Magpies’ five majors with Matthew Crawford and Blair Mcgillvery toiling hard.
Perth are now ranked the competition’s sixth best team with Old Scotch four-points clear on top from Evandale.
