The aim of the garden is to create employment, horticultural education and allow those on low incomes to have access to affordable produce.
Neighbourhood House manager Trish O’Duffy said support for the garden had been amazing.
“We’ve been trying to get it up and running for a year, all of a sudden, since we’ve started it we’ve been getting grants. People are happy to pitch in,” she said.
The council gave a grant of $5000 for raised garden beds to allow the whole community to be involved.
Ms O’Duffy hopes the garden will have a full crop and get a full yield by summer.
