The club applied for $500 to be put towards prizes awarded during the East Coast Open Golf Tournament. 

Mayor Michael Kent said the motion didn’t pass because the council was worried it would open all sorts of doors, he suggested applying for a grant to install facilities at the club instead. 

“We’re not telling them to run away, we just don’t want to get involved in sponsorship,” he said.
