At their home game on Saturday night, Bellamy’s Launceston Tornadoes will take on Nunawading.
As part of the Tornadoes Community Program, City Mission collection boxes have been placed at Elphin Stadium and supporters can donate food items before the game.
The items will go towards City Mission and The Examiner’s Mission Possible campaign.
Now in its fourth week, the campaign is about 300 items shy of reaching 5000 food products donated.
City Mission business manager John Clements said the organisation was run off its feet.
“City Mission has assisted a record number of community members with food items for the month of May, up 22 per cent from May 2016, and the month has a week to run,” he said.
With the support of Mission Possible and the Tornadoes, Mr Clements was hopeful the mission’s shelves would be stocked with food by the start of June.
“City Mission appreciates the partnership with the Tornadoes through the very successful Mission Possible campaign and the opportunity to continue the momentum of food item donations,” he said.
“City Mission thanks the Tornadoes for their support and appreciate our alignment through the local areas we both support – being the North and North West of Tasmania.”
People are encouraged to donate a range of different items during the remainder of the campaign.
Valued items include muesli bars, spreads and personal cleaning products.
People can drop off items in the Mission Possible boxes at any of City Mission’s retail stores.
Newsagents across Tasmania’s north also have yellow collection boxes.
Locations include newsagents at; Shearwater, Legana, George Town, Beaconsfield, Trevallyn, Invermay, Norwood, Kings Meadows and Perth.
