Volunteering Tasmania has been awarded $200,000 to build an army of volunteers to respond in the event of a natural disaster.

The funding, which will flow over four years, is in addition to the $260,000 provided each year to Volunteering Tasmania.
Foodbank will also receive $400,000 over the next four years to establish a base in the North-West region.
Launceston’s Missionbeat food van and Devonport’s Gran’s Van will have a share in $60,000 provided to mobile food vans.
The government has also allocated $346,000 to support Tasmanian seniors and $90,000 for the Tasmanian Men’s Shed Association – in addition to the $550,000 allocated since 2014-2015.
The Deloraine Craft Fair will also see $10,000 each year for two years and Colony 47’s Community Christmas Lunch will receive $10,000 over two years.
Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Sarah Courtney, says the government “appreciates the outstanding work done by our community sector organisations”.
