Ben Wara Plowright had been missing for more than three months when his body was found in the river at Perth by two kayakers on September 4.
The social photographer was last seen leaving a party in Arthur Street at Perth on May 30, 2015.
The almost four-month search for him was one of the largest missing person operations in Tasmania's history.
After his family and friends filed a missing person’s report on June 5, about 30 people from Tasmania Police and the State Emergency Service set out to search for Mr Plowright in the Perth area on Sunday, June 7.
The following day, police completed a six-kilometre search by kayak from the Evandale Bridge to Eskleigh.
On June 11, an aerial search was conducted over Perth and divers searched the South Esk River.
Despite the large-scale operation, it was not until months later that Mr Plowright was found and his body identified.
More than 100 people turned out to farewell him during a memorial service in November.
Coroner Duncan Fairley released his findings into the 20-year-old’s death on Thursday.
Both police and the coroner confirmed Mr Plowright’s death was not suspicious.
In his findings, Coroner Fairley said that Mr Plowright had walked to the South Esk River and entered the water on the night of his disappearance.
“I am unable to say with any degree of certainty how Mr Plowright came to be immersed in the river, however, given the combined factors set out in this finding, including his level of intoxication and the lack of ambient lighting I find that the mechanism involved was most likely an accidental fall,” he said.
“In the circumstances there is no need for me to make any further comment or recommendations. I have completed a review of the search undertaken by Police and emergency services and conclude that such was commenced in a timely manner and conducted in an appropriate fashion.”
