Great Barrier Reef

THE Great Barrier Reef is dying. It has had its coral bleached. Coral bleaching happens when the relationship between coral and the algae breaks down, this then results in the colour breaking down. This process is mainly caused by the coral stressing out because of the temperature of the water being too hot. Once the coral has been bleached, it begins to starve. Scientists say that the reefs can bounce back, but they will be looking at a 10 year recovery period. Some ways to help prevent further coral bleaching is to conserve water. The less water that we use, the less wastewater and runoff will pollute the oceans. We also need to help reduce pollution, if we walk or bike ride, we use less fuel. If we all do some of the things, we will have a much healthier planet and we may be able to save the Great Barrier Reef.
