It is the first time the program Food REDi has been delivered by the Red Cross in conjunction with Ravenswood’s Starting Point Neighbourhood House.
Tuesday’s session began with a sit-down lesson, allowing participants to learn each step in creating processed foods and how the costs matched up to buying fresh produce.
The group also discussed the importance of meal planning and concluded the class by cooking together.
Participant Terry Thow said he had learnt what was really in food, tips to find cheaper deals and was now more confident to ask people for help if he did not understand something.
Food REDi is funded through a grant from the City of Launceston.
