An estimated 86,000 Tasmanians suffer from chronic back problems, according to the Chiropractors Association of Australia.
The Tasmanian branch of the association is running a number of awareness initiatives around the state as part of Spinal Health Week.
It was launched on the lawns of Parliament House in Hobart on Wednesday.
“The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare defines chronic back pain as a health condition that lasts for three months or longer,” chiropractor and association spokesman Ashley Dent said.
“Sedentary behaviours and poor posture are risk factors for chronic back pain. The good news is, it’s never too late to improve spinal health.”
The association is holding a number of events around Tasmania this week, including postural and preventative screenings and manning a recovery tent at the Kingborough Fun Run on Sunday.
Free screenings are being offered around Tasmania. For more information visit chiropractorstas.asn.au.
