National Landcare Network chief executive Jim Adams said the funding demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting a sustainable future for agriculture, as well as country’s 5400 Landcare groups.
“We are delighted that the Australian government has listened to the concerns of our members and stakeholders and continued to invest in this important national asset,” Mr Adams said.
Landcare Australia chief executive Tessa Jakszewicz said the funding has a positive impact for the Landcare community.
“This announcement provides us confidence in being able to continue to provide services that support the Landcare community through programs such as the Landcare Awards which recognise and celebrate the efforts of the over 100,000 volunteers that make up the community,” Ms Jakszewicz said.
Both organisations will work with the federal government to plan how the National Landcare Programme will be delivered over the next five years.
An additional $100 million funding announced in December 2016 is for Landcare group projects, sustainable agriculture grants and new Indigenous Protected Areas.
