TasTAFE
I HAVE been following with interest the commentary in the media regarding Labor’s thoughts on funding for TasTAFE. There are significant problems with TasTAFE that are deeply rooted and are historical.

To assume that TasTAFE suffer similar problems to mainland TAFE colleges and that increased funding is the answer is superficial. A total and comprehensive review is required to fully understand the problems and the solutions.
Issues including workplace culture, leadership and management, employee engagement and performance management and input from industry are crucial components of a much needed review.

Chant Street Church
AS A nephew of the first minister of the Chant Street Uniting Church, The Reverend Alan Mathewson Lth (Licentiate in Theology), I am deeply saddened by its closure. I guess it is part of the secularisation of society.
I was also sad when with the advent of the Uniting Church, one of Methodism’s most beautiful and wonderful services, The Covenant Service was lost. “Come let us use the grace divine and all with one accord in a perpetual covenant be joined unto our Lord.”

National Sorry Day
FRIDAY, May 26, is National Sorry Day. Tasmania is considered one of Australia's most bloody historical chapters, a one-sided Colonial war against the Indigenous population. A print I found recently depicts this historical fact, “The Last Muster of the Aborigines at Risdon 1836” (John Glover 1767-1849).
Like all present day Tasmanians, I am not responsible for this part of history,
But I personally feel a deep need to acknowledge this history and to say “sorry” for what happened at that time. I also fully support the move to have more protection of Aboriginal Heritage and Cultural sites that remain in Tasmania. The sites are unique and should be respected as such.
