Robert Ian Soward, of South Launceston, was charged with using a carriage service to harass another person.
The 48-year-old is accused of making online enquiries to medical and health services and using a woman’s work email address as the return contact.
Court documents reveal the alleged offences took place between May 26 and July 4 last year.
He is due to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on July 10.
City of Launceston General Manager Robert Dobrzynski said the council would “not be making any comment on matters that are before the court for adjudication”.
“Alderman Rob Soward will continue in his role as Acting Mayor until Mayor Albert van Zetten returns from overseas,” Mr Dobrzynski said.
