A smoke alarm woke the son about 4.30am and he discovered the house was filled with smoke.
Running to his father’s room to wake him up, the pair then managed to escape the fire.
It took three Tasmania Fire Service crews to extinguish the blaze, which caused nearly $400,000 in damage.
The two men were checked over at the scene by ambulance officers, but were not injured. Investigators are still working to determine the cause.
