The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a trough moving along eastern Australia will reach Tasmania on Saturday.
State Emergency Service volunteers are on standby as significant rainfall is expected around the Tasmania’s North and upper East.
Some areas are expecting up to 80mm of rainfall in 24 hours, with isolated totals of up to 100mm and thunderstorms possible.
SES released a statement on Friday warning heavy rain may lead to flash flooding in the North-West and North-East on Saturday.
Areas most likely to be affected include Devonport, Burnie, Smithton, St Helens, Bicheno and Fingal.
SES advises people in affected areas to:
- Drive to the conditions - Do not drive, walk or ride through flood waters
- People within these catchments should be mindful of rising river levels
- Ensure drains and gutters are clear of debris and are running freely
- Beware of damaged trees and power lines, trees & limbs may fall in these conditions
- Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings
- Manage pets and livestock
- Be prepared in case of power outages
- Disaster preparedness is a shared responsibility
